FLSA Exemption Advisor — Job-Description Classification Assistant

Shared June 21, 2026 · a community idea

Problem & solution

The problem (your words)

An FLSA evaluation software where companies load the job description. The job description is evaluated against the FLSA exemption tests types and a recommendation is made with a degree of confidence. If there are opinion letters, they should be referenced. The selection will always be explained. (What specific FLSA exemption tests should the software evaluate against?) All of them... Management, Outside Sales, Professional, Adminstrative, etc...

The solution

The tool ingests a job-description text file, runs it against the FLSA white-collar exemption tests, and returns a recommended classification (exempt under a named exemption, or non-exempt), a confidence score, a structured rationale tied to each prong of the relevant test (salary basis, salary level, and the duties test), and citations to applicable DOL opinion letters and regulations. The recommendation is always advisory — an HR professional reviews and approves it. Core workflow: upload/paste a job description → tool maps duties to each exemption's criteria → tool produces a per-exemption assessment + overall recommendation + confidence + rationale + citations → reviewer accepts, overrides (with a note), or requests more info → result is saved with an audit trail. Out of scope for v1: making the actual classification of record in your HRIS/payroll, multi-state minimum-salary threshold automation beyond the federal test, integration with payroll, and any automated action. The tool never changes anyone's pay or status; it informs a human decision.
